bcm2708: Fix i2c platform device registration when CONFIG_I2C_GPIO=m
Thanks for this, but I'll close this, as the drivers in bootc's kernel are likely to be used in the upstream kernel. |
right, bootc has integrated my new interrupt based code for the BSC hardware in his driver, and so far no problems reported from people who tested it, so maybe no need for a GPIO fallback |
Plus I think the plan is when we move to a devicetree-enabled kernel it will be possible to enable that fallback through the appropriate devicetree stanza. |

The VM ends up calling ->releasepage to get more memory, and it tries to do a blocking commit. That commit can't succeed however without a connected socket, so we deadlock. Fix this by setting PF_FSTRANS on the workqueue task prior to doing the socket allocation, and having nfs_release_page check for that flag when deciding whether to do a commit call. Also, set PF_FSTRANS unconditionally in rpc_async_schedule since that function can also do allocations sometimes. The warning below triggers on AMD MCM packages because physical package IDs on the cores of a _physical_ socket are the same. I.e., this field says which CPUs belong to the same physical package. However, the same two CPUs belong to two different internal, i.e. "logical" nodes in the same physical socket which is reflected in the CPU-to-node map on x86 with NUMA. Which makes this check wrong on the above topologies so circumvent it. [ 0.444413] Booting Node 0, Processors #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 Ok. Add 6 new devices and one modified device, based on information from laptop vendor Windows drivers. Sony provides a driver with two new devices using a Gobi 2k+ layout (1199:68a5 and 1199:68a9). The Sony driver also adds a non-standard QMI/net interface to the already supported 1199:9011 Gobi device. We do not know whether this is an alternate interface number or an additional interface which might be present, but that doesn't really matter. Lenovo provides a driver supporting 4 new devices: - MC7770 (1199:901b) with standard Gobi 2k+ layout - MC7700 (0f3d:68a2) with layout similar to MC7710 - MC7750 (114f:68a2) with layout similar to MC7710 - EM7700 (1199:901c) with layout similar to MC7710 Note regaring the three devices similar to MC7710: The Windows drivers only support interface #8 on these devices. The MC7710 can support QMI/net functions on interface #19 and #20 as well, and this driver is verified to work on interface #19 (a firmware bug is suspected to prevent #20 from working). We do not enable these additional interfaces until they either show up in a Windows driver or are verified to work in some other way. Therefore limiting the new devices to interface #8 for now. The SDVO code tries to compare the encoder's and crtc's idea of the pixel_multiplier. Normally they have to match, but when transitioning to DPMS off, we turn off the pipe before reading out the pipe_config, so the pixel_multiplier in the pipe_config will be 0, whereas the encoder will still have its pixel_multiplier set to whatever value we were using when the display was active. This leads to a warning from intel_modeset_check_state(). Hello, Jens. The original thread can be read from http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.cgroups/8937 While it leads to oops, given that it only triggers under specific configurations which aren't common. I don't think it's necessary to backport it through -stable and merging it during the coming merge window should be enough. Thanks! ----- 8< ----- Currently, q->root_blkg and q->root_rl.blkg are set from blkcg_activate_policy() and cleared from blkg_destroy_all(). This doesn't necessarily coincide with the lifetime of the root blkcg_gq leading to the following oops when blkcg is enabled but no policy is activated because __blk_queue_next_rl() malfunctions expecting the root_blkg pointers to be set. commit 3617f2c upstream. When a CPU is hot removed we'll cancel all the delayed work items via gov_cancel_work(). Normally this will just cancels a delayed timer on each CPU that the policy is managing and the work won't run, but if the work is already running the workqueue code will wait for the work to finish before continuing to prevent the work items from re-queuing themselves like they normally do. This scheme will work most of the time, except for the case where the work function determines that it should adjust the delay for all other CPUs that the policy is managing. If this scenario occurs, the canceling CPU will cancel its own work but queue up the other CPUs works to run. For example: CPU0 CPU1 ---- ---- cpu_down() ... __cpufreq_remove_dev() cpufreq_governor_dbs() case CPUFREQ_GOV_STOP: gov_cancel_work(dbs_data, policy); cpu0 work is canceled timer is canceled cpu1 work is canceled <work runs> <waits for cpu1> od_dbs_timer() gov_queue_work(*, *, true); cpu0 work queued cpu1 work queued cpu2 work queued ... cpu1 work is canceled cpu2 work is canceled ... At the end of the GOV_STOP case cpu0 still has a work queued to run although the code is expecting all of the works to be canceled. __cpufreq_remove_dev() will then proceed to re-initialize all the other CPUs works except for the CPU that is going down. The CPUFREQ_GOV_START case in cpufreq_governor_dbs() will trample over the queued work and debugobjects will spit out a warning: WARNING: at lib/debugobjects.c:260 debug_print_object+0x94/0xbc() ODEBUG: init active (active state 0) object type: timer_list hint: delayed_work_timer_fn+0x0/0x10 Modules linked in: CPU: 0 PID: 1491 Comm: sh Tainted: G W 3.10.0 #19 [<c010c178>] (unwind_backtrace+0x0/0x11c) from [<c0109dec>] (show_stack+0x10/0x14) [<c0109dec>] (show_stack+0x10/0x14) from [<c01904cc>] (warn_slowpath_common+0x4c/0x6c) [<c01904cc>] (warn_slowpath_common+0x4c/0x6c) from [<c019056c>] (warn_slowpath_fmt+0x2c/0x3c) [<c019056c>] (warn_slowpath_fmt+0x2c/0x3c) from [<c0388a7c>] (debug_print_object+0x94/0xbc) [<c0388a7c>] (debug_print_object+0x94/0xbc) from [<c0388e34>] (__debug_object_init+0x2d0/0x340) [<c0388e34>] (__debug_object_init+0x2d0/0x340) from [<c019e3b0>] (init_timer_key+0x14/0xb0) [<c019e3b0>] (init_timer_key+0x14/0xb0) from [<c0635f78>] (cpufreq_governor_dbs+0x3e8/0x5f8) [<c0635f78>] (cpufreq_governor_dbs+0x3e8/0x5f8) from [<c06325a0>] (__cpufreq_governor+0xdc/0x1a4) [<c06325a0>] (__cpufreq_governor+0xdc/0x1a4) from [<c0633704>] (__cpufreq_remove_dev.isra.10+0x3b4/0x434) [<c0633704>] (__cpufreq_remove_dev.isra.10+0x3b4/0x434) from [<c08989f4>] (cpufreq_cpu_callback+0x60/0x80) [<c08989f4>] (cpufreq_cpu_callback+0x60/0x80) from [<c08a43c0>] (notifier_call_chain+0x38/0x68) [<c08a43c0>] (notifier_call_chain+0x38/0x68) from [<c01938e0>] (__cpu_notify+0x28/0x40) [<c01938e0>] (__cpu_notify+0x28/0x40) from [<c0892ad4>] (_cpu_down+0x7c/0x2c0) [<c0892ad4>] (_cpu_down+0x7c/0x2c0) from [<c0892d3c>] (cpu_down+0x24/0x40) [<c0892d3c>] (cpu_down+0x24/0x40) from [<c0893ea8>] (store_online+0x2c/0x74) [<c0893ea8>] (store_online+0x2c/0x74) from [<c04519d8>] (dev_attr_store+0x18/0x24) [<c04519d8>] (dev_attr_store+0x18/0x24) from [<c02a69d4>] (sysfs_write_file+0x100/0x148) [<c02a69d4>] (sysfs_write_file+0x100/0x148) from [<c0255c18>] (vfs_write+0xcc/0x174) [<c0255c18>] (vfs_write+0xcc/0x174) from [<c0255f70>] (SyS_write+0x38/0x64) [<c0255f70>] (SyS_write+0x38/0x64) from [<c0106120>] (ret_fast_syscall+0x0/0x30) Signed-off-by: Stephen Boyd <[email protected]> Acked-by: Viresh Kumar <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Consequently it's not required to disable IRQs. Replace the spinlock with a mutex to fix the deadlock. For historical reasons, when bridge device is in promisc mode, packets that are directed to the taps follow bridge input hook path. This patch adds a workaround to reset conntrack for these packets. Jianbo Liu reports warning splats in their test infrastructure where cloned packets reach the br_netfilter input hook to confirm the conntrack object. Scratch one bit from BR_INPUT_SKB_CB to annotate that this packet has reached the input hook because it is passed up to the bridge device to reach the taps. [ Upstream commit 751de20 ] For historical reasons, when bridge device is in promisc mode, packets that are directed to the taps follow bridge input hook path. The code in ocfs2_dio_end_io_write() estimates number of necessary transaction credits using ocfs2_calc_extend_credits(). This however does not take into account that the IO could be arbitrarily large and can contain arbitrary number of extents. Extent tree manipulations do often extend the current transaction but not in all of the cases. For example if we have only single block extents in the tree, ocfs2_mark_extent_written() will end up calling ocfs2_replace_extent_rec() all the time and we will never extend the current transaction and eventually exhaust all the transaction credits if the IO contains many single block extents. Once that happens a WARN_ON(jbd2_handle_buffer_credits(handle) <= 0) is triggered in jbd2_journal_dirty_metadata() and subsequently OCFS2 aborts in response to this error. This was actually triggered by one of our customers on a heavily fragmented OCFS2 filesystem. To fix the issue make sure the transaction always has enough credits for one extent insert before each call of ocfs2_mark_extent_written(). commit be346c1 upstream. [ Upstream commit 769e6a1 ] ui_browser__show() is capturing the input title that is stack allocated memory in hist_browser__run(). Avoid a use after return by strdup-ing the string. Committer notes: Further explanation from Ian Rogers: My command line using tui is: $ sudo bash -c 'rm /tmp/asan.log*; export ASAN_OPTIONS="log_path=/tmp/asan.log"; /tmp/perf/perf mem record -a sleep 1; /tmp/perf/perf mem report' I then go to the perf annotate view and quit. This triggers the asan error (from the log file): ``` ==1254591==ERROR: AddressSanitizer: stack-use-after-return on address 0x7f2813331920 at pc 0x7f28180 65991 bp 0x7fff0a21c750 sp 0x7fff0a21bf10 READ of size 80 at 0x7f2813331920 thread T0 #0 0x7f2818065990 in __interceptor_strlen ../../../../src/libsanitizer/sanitizer_common/sanitizer_common_interceptors.inc:461 #1 0x7f2817698251 in SLsmg_write_wrapped_string (/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libslang.so.2+0x98251) #2 0x7f28176984b9 in SLsmg_write_nstring (/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libslang.so.2+0x984b9) #3 0x55c94045b365 in ui_browser__write_nstring ui/browser.c:60 #4 0x55c94045c558 in __ui_browser__show_title ui/browser.c:266 #5 0x55c94045c776 in ui_browser__show ui/browser.c:288 #6 0x55c94045c06d in ui_browser__handle_resize ui/browser.c:206 #7 0x55c94047979b in do_annotate ui/browsers/hists.c:2458 #8 0x55c94047fb17 in evsel__hists_browse ui/browsers/hists.c:3412 #9 0x55c940480a0c in perf_evsel_menu__run ui/browsers/hists.c:3527 #10 0x55c940481108 in __evlist__tui_browse_hists ui/browsers/hists.c:3613 #11 0x55c9404813f7 in evlist__tui_browse_hists ui/browsers/hists.c:3661 #12 0x55c93ffa253f in report__browse_hists tools/perf/builtin-report.c:671 #13 0x55c93ffa58ca in __cmd_report tools/perf/builtin-report.c:1141 #14 0x55c93ffaf159 in cmd_report tools/perf/builtin-report.c:1805 #15 0x55c94000c05c in report_events tools/perf/builtin-mem.c:374 #16 0x55c94000d96d in cmd_mem tools/perf/builtin-mem.c:516 #17 0x55c9400e44ee in run_builtin tools/perf/perf.c:350 #18 0x55c9400e4a5a in handle_internal_command tools/perf/perf.c:403 #19 0x55c9400e4e22 in run_argv tools/perf/perf.c:447 #20 0x55c9400e53ad in main tools/perf/perf.c:561 #21 0x7f28170456c9 in __libc_start_call_main ../sysdeps/nptl/libc_start_call_main.h:58 #22 0x7f2817045784 in __libc_start_main_impl ../csu/libc-start.c:360 #23 0x55c93ff544c0 in _start (/tmp/perf/perf+0x19a4c0) (BuildId: 84899b0e8c7d3a3eaa67b2eb35e3d8b2f8cd4c93) Address 0x7f2813331920 is located in stack of thread T0 at offset 32 in frame #0 0x55c94046e85e in hist_browser__run ui/browsers/hists.c:746 This frame has 1 object(s): [32, 192) 'title' (line 747) <== Memory access at offset 32 is inside this variable HINT: this may be a false positive if your program uses some custom stack unwind mechanism, swapcontext or vfork ``` hist_browser__run isn't on the stack so the asan error looks legit. There's no clean init/exit on struct ui_browser so I may be trading a use-after-return for a memory leak, but that seems look a good trade anyway. See http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/projects-and-collaboration-general/linux-device-drivers-for-rapberry-pi-on-board-io/page-4 for details. I'll try to implement a driver which uses the I2C hardware module of the microcontroller this weekend, but might need some more time and until then, this is a stable intermediate solution.
Edit: the real driver is now available: http://www.bootc.net/archives/2012/05/19/i2c-and-the-raspberry-pi/ no need for GPIO at the moment, but maybe could be enabled by kernel config instead of the hardware driver, if there are problems
