The ship's life support systems, including the stasis chamber, are controlled and maintained by a non-adaptive AI which is given top electrical priority, to the chagrin of the more advanced ship AI.

The life support AI has electronic and human-accessible interfaces, both of which are very basic and designed to err on the side of human safety. In contrast to the ship AI, the life support AI has no "personality", nor the ability to make changes to its own behavior. It does have advanced logical capabilities and access to a large volume of biological and medical knowledge, but it is not well-suited to improvisation.

Its internal clock has been running ever since the ship was launched, but the AI is not designed to act as a long-term high-precision timekeeper, so there is no interface exposing its clock value or any data about whether it has rolled over.
