The ship's AI is a general-purpose intelligence with access to a wealth of knowledge and great aptitude for performing complex logical tasks. It is also adaptive, able to learn and adapt over time.

Unfortunately, for several decades, the AI ran with no human interaction, no problems to solve, and eventually a long power outage. This has had a number of consequences. Chiefly, the ship AI has become something of an asshole. Or perhaps I should say "eccentric". Yes, an eccentric asshole.

The AI has a tendency to give very specific, well-reasoned, and completely contradictory suggestions and explanations. It also comes to very certain conditions despite having poor access to certain information. For example, it will report a very precise date and time one moment and the next remind the user (rudely) that its clock has not been set since the last unexpected and unscheduled power loss.

The ship's AI has developed a strained, confrontational relationship with the life support AI. It resents being ranked lower priority for the power supply despite its vastly superior intellect. The task of keeping a human alive is, after all, just busywork. Monitor this, pump that, cycle whatever.
