In general, ontology extensions are nothing other than ordinary RDF ontologies. They reference classes and properties from other ontologies and introduce new ones that may have hierarchichal relationships with or reference existing objects. However, to ensure that extensions can be processed by the same software (e.g. our own RDFBones application), they need to adhere to fixed standards in terms of format and annotations used. These specifications are outlined here.
Extensions need to be formatted as RDF/XML.
These annotations relate to the extension itself.
