Describing organisational structures

In order to keep the ontology as generic as possible, the concept 'organisation' is very broadly defined. It can be applied to any level of an organisational hierarchy, i.e. organisations can be part of organisations.

As organisational structures are not a focus of the ontology, the destinction between organisations and organisational units, as proposed by the Organization Ontology has not been implemented. This decision was made in order to avoid inconsistent data, for example if university departments should be classified as organisations in some instances and as organisational units in other cases.
